Poker is one of the most famous card games with many fans and followers. The game is entertaining and exciting as it promotes social integration and increases knowledge of the game. There are specific rules about poker which must be followed by every player, like poker hands.

They follow a hierarchy that decides the best hand. Following are the traditional rankings for poker:

  1. Straight Flush: These are a combination of five cards of identical suits arranged in numerological order. In case of a tie, the highest rank at the top of the sequence wins. The best variant is Royal Flush which consists of Ace, King, Queen, Jack and ten of suits. It is ideally the unbeatable hand.
  1. Four of a Kind: They are a group of four cards belonging to the same rank along with one side card or ‘kicker.’ Whenever there is a tie, the highest-level wins. In community card games, the higher fifth side card or kicker wins.
  1. Full House: They contain three cards of the same rank, and two others of a different, but matching rank. In case of a tie, the three highest matching cards wins the pot. In community games, the player with the highest value of the two cards is declared the winner.
  1. Flush: It includes five cards of the same suit. The player with the highest-ranked card wins in case of a tie. If needed, the second, third, fourth and fifth-highest cards can break the tie. The pot is split if all the five cards have the same ranks. The suit by itself is never used to break the tie.
  1. Straight: It is made of five cards in a sequence. The highest-ranking card at the top of the series wins in a tie. Ace is the only card which can be used in the top or bottom of the sequence. A, K, Q, J, T is the highest straight with Ace. 5, 4, 3, 2, and A is the lowest straight with 5 being the highest value.
  1. Three of a Kind: There are three cards of the same rank and two side cards. The highest-ranking three-of-a-kind wins, or in case of a tie, the highest side card wins.
  1. Two Pair: It consists of two cards of a matching rank, another two cards of a different rank, and one side card. The highest pair wins.
  1. One Pair: It contains two cards of a matching rank and three unrelated side cards. The highest pair wins.
  1. High Card: It consists of any poker hand rankings that did not qualify from the categories mentioned above. The most top card wins.
